23 Apr Irmãos Makossa
Irmãos Makossa, two friends, researchers of African music from the 1970s and its influences. In 2008 they decided to combine their tastes and bring their knowledge to the public! The Irmãos Makossa DJ sets tell the story of a journey across Africa and how Africa influenced the musical world, as narrated by the music on the vinyl records and CDs they carry around in their suitcases. The reference point for this duo is Fela Kuti, the creator of Afrobeat, but also Manu Dibango, Ebo Taylor, Tony Allen, Franco, O.P. du Cotonou…
Irmãos Makossa usually perform in venues around Lisbon, but they have also already featured at FMM Sines, Boom Festival, Vodafone Mexefest, Lisboa Mistura Festival, Meo Out Jazz, and contribute mix tapes to a number of radio stations, such as Antena 3, RDP Africa and Groovalizacion.
The duo’s motto is simply to celebrate with joy and warm rhythms the best Africa has to offer: Music.
