Congo Stars de Vibration
The Congo Stars de Vibration band arose as the result of the determination of Congolese and Angolan immigrants living in Lisbon to set up a band devoted to some of the sounds from the Congo region.
Mostly formed by immigrants from the Lower Congo – which covers both Kinshasa and Brazaville Congo and Angola – it was founded in Lisbon some 15 years ago to play rhythms, such as Congolese rumba, soukous, semba and kilapanga, but it has also experimented with fusion with other sounds, such as reggae and salsa, singing in Lingala, Portuguese, Kikongo and Kimbundu, offering an idea of the musical variety of this African region.
Currently comprising 10 members – from Congo, Angola, Guinea, Portugal and Brazil – the band’s main feature is a constant flow of musicians, not only from the Congo region, but also from various other parts of the world.
