Bubacar Djabaté

Bubacar Djabaté

Born in Tabato into a family of musicians, an area of griots in East Guinea Bissau, he learned how to sing and play balafon (a kind of typical West African xylophone), djembe and cabasa from his family.

Living in Lisbon since 2005, Bubacar Djabaté brings the legacy of traditional Mandinga music alive in his voice and the sounds of his instrument, both through a time-honoured repertoire and in his own strongly mesmerising songs that capture the heritage of Guinean culture and its various musical influences.

He has participated in several cultural events in Portugal, such as: Lisboa Mistura Festival (São Luiz Theatre), Bairro ao Mundo Festival, Arte e Manha, Bartô-Chapitô, Bacalhoeiro Cultural Space, Mouraria Cultural Association, Rua Voz Operário, Damas Bar Cultural Space and Braços de Prata Factory.
